The Sights of Beautiful Bermuda

While the trip had a full itinerary, there was a little time to see a few sights!

The poinciana trees were in full bloom!

A column of cloud rises over St. George's harbour and the airport.

Canadians are used to hibiscus as a potted plant... what a contrast to see an 8 foot hedge in full blossom.

With rain as the key water source, roofs are designed to gather it as the precious resource it is - including the post office at Bailey's Bay!

First imported to the island to control pesky lizards, the Kiskadee is now synonymous with Bermuda: it's curious call was everywhere!

Underground in Crystal and Fantasy Caves: imagine these wonders being discovered by young boys looking for a lost cricket ball!

Once known as "Gibralter of the West", Bermuda has a very long history of heavy fortification. The leavings of 400 years worth of guns and batteries are everywhere, including this World War II vintage artillery symbolically guarding shipping lanes and the shore.

A view from the Commissioner's House at the fort at the Royal Naval Dockyards is now the heart of the Bermuda Maritime Museum. To the right of this shot, huge cruise ships now dock near the glassworks!

The view from newly restored Fort St. Catherine: it would be a short walk for "shore leave" for these soldiers!

With a long family history of sea-farers, seeing the island from the water was a must for Fr. Bill: so to public transit for the answer. The ferry ride from St. George's to the Dockyards was spectacular!

A long-tail soars gracefully by.
